When I made "Mammalia", I wanted to explore masculinity at a moment of rupture. Through the journey of a man searching for his missing partner, who has joined a mysterious feminist community, I examined confusion, vulnerability, and the fear of losing control. The film shifts between realism and allegory because I was interested in emotional truth rather than literal explanation. By placing the protagonist in unfamiliar territory, I allowed his certainties to dissolve. The film ultimately suggests that identity—especially male identity—is fragile and constructed, and that transformation often begins with discomfort. It invites viewers to confront insecurity, projection, and the possibility of change.
